You can still work remotely from Antigua. The famous nomad visa is just not how you do it any more. The Nomad Digital Residence, the two year remote work permit Antigua and Barbuda launched in 2020, is closed to new applicants. Most of the blogs selling it have not noticed. What is left is simpler. Come as a visitor, work for your employer overseas, set yourself up properly and stay within the time immigration gives you.

I stayed at LambLion, a family run set of eleven self catering apartments in the green middle of the island, and walked every row of the garden with the owners. This guide is the practical version. The visa situation as it stands in October 2026, the internet, the time zone, coworking, what a working week actually looks like, and how to use a few weeks here to test a bigger move.

Is the Antigua Nomad Digital Residence still open? No, the programme has ended

The Antigua and Barbuda Nomad Digital Residence is closed to new applicants. The official programme portal now carries the banner “This program has ended”, and no replacement remote work visa has been announced, according to Stamped Nomad’s visa tracker, last updated on 27 October 2026. Other guides report that the closure took effect in November 2025, but no official closure date has been published.

While it ran, the Nomad Digital Residence let people employed outside the country live in Antigua and Barbuda for up to two years. The main applicant needed an income of at least US$50,000 a year, and the fee was US$1,500 for one person and US$3,000 for a family. If you hold one already, the Department of Immigration is the office to talk to about it.

Read that again before you pay any agent who says they can still get you one.

Can you work remotely from Antigua as a visitor? Yes, for a stay within your entry permission

Working remotely from Antigua as a visitor is how most remote workers come now, as long as you work only for an employer or clients outside Antigua and Barbuda and stay within the time immigration grants you. You cannot take a local job without a work permit.

How long you get depends on your passport. British visitors are allowed to stay for up to 90 days without a visa, and need an onward or return ticket, according to the UK government’s travel advice. Stamped Nomad reports that nationals of visa exempt countries can be given up to six months, at the immigration officer’s discretion, and that stays can be extended through the Department of Immigration. Rules change, so confirm with immigration before you plan anything longer than a few months.

Does Antigua have good internet? Yes, fibre covers the island, with a few caveats

Antigua has good enough internet for remote work, with fibre to the home available across the island from APUA, the state utility, and home broadband also sold by Digicel and Flow. APUA marked the launch of its Inet fibre broadband network as a big step up from the old copper lines, and independent speed tests over the past year put average home broadband speeds for the main providers at around 40 Mbps. That is fine for video calls and large uploads.

The caveats are the same as anywhere in the Caribbean.

Every LambLion apartment has free Wi Fi and a work table. Ask the family which apartment gets the strongest signal, because they will know.

What time zone is Antigua in? Atlantic Standard Time, all year round

Antigua and Barbuda is on Atlantic Standard Time, four hours behind UTC, all year, with no daylight saving changes, according to timeanddate. That makes it one of the friendliest time zones for working across the Atlantic.

If you work with the US, you barely notice the move. If you work with London, you are up at dawn and finished by lunch, which leaves the whole afternoon for the beach. I can think of worse arrangements.

Are there coworking spaces in Antigua? A few, mostly in St John’s

Coworking spaces in Antigua are few and small, and the ones listed online are mostly in and around St John’s. Directory listings name Wadadli Spaces in St John’s, with monthly desks and private offices, but I could not confirm its current prices, so call ahead before you rely on any space.

Most remote workers in Antigua work from their apartment, with the odd day at a café or a beach bar with Wi Fi when they want company. That is why the apartment matters more here than in a city with a coworking space on every corner. You want a real table, a chair you can sit in for eight hours, air conditioning and quiet.

For the town side of things, the shops, the market and the cafés, my guide to apartments near St John’s covers getting in and out from the middle of the island.

A working week from central Antigua looks like this

A working week from central Antigua is early starts, a garden break at lunch and evenings at the beach, because the island is small enough to fit work and the sea into the same day. This is how I would set one up from LambLion.

The green matters more than people think when you spend the day on a screen. On my garden tour I asked Lionel whether guests come to LambLion for the garden itself, the way people in Japan go forest bathing. He did not give me the answer I was fishing for.

I don’t think a lot of people come specifically for that, to be honest with you. But from time to time, people will come and remark about how it is.

Lionel Walker, owner of LambLion

Honest man. I was one of the people remarking. Ten minutes under those banana trees would do more for a tired head after a long video call than any coffee.

Scouting a move to Antigua? Use a month or two as a test run

The best way to scout a move to Antigua is to live here for a month or two first, in an ordinary apartment, doing ordinary things, before you sign a lease or buy anything. A holiday tells you if you like the beaches. A month tells you if you like the supermarket queue, the roads, the heat in September and the pace of getting things done.

LambLion has hosted people doing exactly that for years. On my tour Lionel pointed at a row of tall trees and told me where the seeds came from.

These magnificent trees were basically the seeds to Antigua from one of our Grenadian clients who happened to live here for a few years while his wife was working as an accountant in Antigua.

That is the kind of guest a family run place gets. People who come for work, stay for years and leave a tree behind.

Bringing the family, or having family visit

If you are working remotely with a partner or children, a two bedroom apartment gives you a door to close for calls. If you are the one with family on the island, and you are returning to see relatives while you keep your job, a medium term apartment lets you stay long enough to actually see everyone without living out of a suitcase in someone’s spare room.

For the nuts and bolts of a longer stay, groceries, buses, healthcare and costs, read my guide to one month in Antigua. If the winter is your window, my Antigua winter getaway guide covers the weather and the busy season.

Where to stay in Antigua for remote work is somewhere quiet with a real table

The best place to stay in Antigua for remote work is a self catering apartment in a quiet area with reliable Wi Fi, a proper table and air conditioning, because you will spend more hours inside it than any tourist would. Beach resorts are built for people on holiday, with noise, music and patchy Wi Fi by the pool. Central Antigua is built for people who live here.

LambLion fits that brief. It has eleven apartments, studios, one bedroom and two bedroom, each with a kitchen or kitchenette, free Wi Fi, air conditioned bedrooms, free laundry and free parking, all set in a garden you are welcome to pick from. You can see them on the apartments page. It is about 20 minutes to St John’s and about 9 km to the airport, and the beaches are around 15 minutes away. If you want to compare areas first, see where to stay in Antigua without a resort.

It is also Green Globe certified, with solar panels, solar water heating and rainwater harvesting, which you can read about on the sustainability page and in my Hold The Throne listing for LambLion. Medical students at the American University of Antigua use the apartments too, and I have written a separate guide on accommodation near the American University of Antigua.

The nomad visa has gone. The reasons to work from Antigua have not. Good fibre, a friendly time zone, warm sea at five o’clock. Bring your laptop, book somewhere green and do your best work with a mango tree outside the window.
